The Argument from Contingency on Unbelievable?

The latest episode of Unbelievable? had Alex O’Connor and Cameron Bertuzzi discussing the Argument from Contingency. The discussion was excellent, with both presenters effectively offering their arguments. Although I think that Alex easily took the win on this one, it was the closing statements that most caught my attention. When asked to summarize their response to “why is there something rather than nothing?”, Cameron struggled to present a simple and convincing statement since his theistic worldview requires him to be able to explain just about everything in order for it to all make sense. Alex, on the other hand, responded with a simple “I don’t know, but neither do you”. That pretty much summarizes the atheist vs theist debate for me. While the atheist is capable of saying “I don’t know” and await a convincing argument/answer, the theist is incapable of doing this without his worldview being jeopardized, forcing him/her to accept inadequate arguments in the process.
